I just searched "AD&D." Why would Planet ADnD show up waaay before DF or K&KA on Google? I can see why it would beat K&KA, but DF??!?
That's just wrong.
EDIT: Oh, I just saw they have 3rd edition forums now. So it makes sense, but it's even more wrong.
EDIT EDIT: If I put "AD&D: visit K&KA" into my sig, is that going to make it more likely that K&KA would move up on google as I post? Or does Google work differently?

The exact way that google ranks sites is a closely-guarded secret.

Two primary factors seem to be the number of hits the site gets, and the number of links to the site.
In other words if there are a lot of people linking to a particular site, the google crawlers find that site a lot, and therefore the site moves up the google ranking.
So yes, a link in the sig of an active poster will move particular sites up the rankings.

Another factor is who links to a site. Google has a rating system. Some sites are considered "better" than others, in determing where to rank a site.

In addition to that, though, is the question of how to make K&KA show up on a search for "AD&D." How to match it with the particular keyword.

When I first signed up for Angelfire and submitted my site to search engines, AF gave me this information about something called "Meta Tags" that search engines look for. This is basically an HTML code containing "key words" that help categorize your website.

You're right - and there are no keywords I can find at the top of the source code for our index page. That might be something to add.

I'm not sure how well metatags actually work any more. Google may ignore them.
The best way to increase K&KA's rank on an AD&D search is to add AD&D content.

But jeez, however would we do that?
