Architectural tricks

I'm screwing around on Tablesmith at the moment (http://www.mythosa.net/Utils.html) working on a table involving architectural tricks: bridges, doors, ceilings, etc.

I have hit a mental block: the only two things I can think of that architectural tricks do (other than magical weirdnesses) is to bar the path to something or to hide the path to something. What else is there that a purely architectural trick might do?

At first glance, your division seems to me indeed so fundamental that any more particular trick would fall into one category or the other. The way forward may lie in considering different meanings of "bar" and "hide."

For example, hiding can involve concealment or misdirection. Each of those might be further subdivided.

Entertain.

Make an impression (such as, instill awe w/o hiding, barring or diverting).

Entice to enter, rather than bar or hide.

They can confuse the party. (Examples of such an architectural trick: a maze; a bridge containing a lot of hematite that makes the party's compass go haywire.)
