The Dungeon Before Christmas

Post by ThirstyStirge »

What holiday-themed monsters, traps, tricks would you put in a Christmassy dungeon?
Obvs, the BBEG would be the evil Old Elf himself surrounded by his dire reindeer minions. (I wonder what diabolical toys the Drow make...) :)

I'd have to think longer & harder for actual dungeon stuffers, but as for diabolical drow toys...

Drider pull-toy constructs.

Riding lizard sweaters.

Mind Flayer collectable bobble-heads.

Pin the poison dart in Drizz't's heart game.

Artificial Fungi tree, now with Continual Faerie Fire lights.

Spider Webbing tree tinsel.

Beholder, Kuo-Tou & Umber Hulk tree ornaments set.

Demon Queen of the tree-topper Lolth ornament.

Baby's first sacrificial ritual play-set, with real obsidian bladed dagger. Sacrificial slave not included.

...and the number one drow gift for the Lolth - Our Lady of the Demon Web Pits holiday season is...

a Free Assassination of the Rival Noble House Matriarch gift card! (only 100pp value cards currently accepted. No trade-in for monetary value or refunds allowed, gift card expires 30 days after purchase.)

That's pretty much what this thing is, right? Not to say you can't make another one of your own, but it's probably worth at least taking a look at this one before devoting a lot of effort to reinventing the wheel...

The DUNGEON MASTERS GUIDE City of Brass cover is good and bad at the same time. While its very representational of a high level adventure, it sends a clear message to the dumb: Satan is going to cornhole Miss USA with a big red member and theres nothing science or the military can do about it. - Gene Weigel

Yes! Quite an array of new Christmassy magic, monsters and traps in HG1. I have to run right now, but I'll try to put together a PDF of the new monsters from HG1 later tonight.

The PCs enter a room and see.....

A plain metal pole. (The Festivus Pole) - This plain metal (it's aluminum but how could the PCs possibly know that) pole radiates magic. When viewed it forces PCs to make a save or suffer one of the following effects. (roll 1d4 for each PC who fails the save)

1 - Feats of Strength. PC(s) chooses another PC, henchman, hirelings, etc at random in the party and attempts to wrestle him/her/it to the ground.
2 - Airing of Greviences. The PC(s) loudly begins to berate and criticize all other members of the party one by one. 30% chance the PC doing the berating loses their train of thought and the effect ends.
3 - Rain Blows on another PC. Run up to another party member and begin to pound on him/her/it with fists. 75% chance of destroying one non magical, soft item such as an item of clothing, or belt pouch, etc
4 - PC will donate all carried monetary wealth to the first non-party member he/she sees, and declare it vocally to the creature to be a gift on behalf of the Human Fund, Money For People. This will not take effect until they see a non-party member. When this happens, the PC(s) will stop, dig out all monetary wealth, approach the creature and give him/her/it the wealth. 50% chance of confusing said creature enough to prevent it from performing any action for 1-2 (1d4-2) rounds.

All effects (except #4 which is instantaneous) last 3-6 rounds (1d4+2) and have a 75% chance of attracting wandering monsters.
