Marc Miller's Health

Post by gizmomathboy »

I thought about posting this earlier but didn't reminded of this until talking about with Francisca at lunch about it.

Miller is missing a Game Hole con and some other trips because it came up during some checkup that needs a triple bypass. In fact, his surgery is today (as I reread the email sent to the Citizens of The Imperium mailing list). He expects to have good recovery and it seems to be as much a genetic thing as an "urgrent need" kind of thing.

In any anyone was wondering why he's not going to Game Hole Con or have heard about his health issues.

Hears to hoping one of the gaming giants has a good and fast recovery.

Marc Miller is a good guy. I interacted with him frequently online and in-person at GenCon in the 90s and he was one of the biggest gaming heroes of my childhood, alongside Gary Gygax, Greg Stafford, and Mike Pondsmith. I don't really agree with where he took the Traveller system over the past couple decades, but it's cool that he retained control of it (or, rather, regained control of it after GDW closed up shop - he wasn't involved in their ill-fated Traveller: The New Era version that tried way too hard to ride the White Wolf zeitgeist in the early 90s) and I respect his right to do with it what he wants (plus he released the collected reprints and CD archive sets of the entire GDW-era canon, including licensed third-party stuff, which was really, really cool of him to do). I wish him a full and speedy recovery.

I met him briefly while chatting with Frank Mentzer at GaryCon last year, and he seemed to be in good spirits and health at the time. Hopefully he recovers well, and fully!

Don't feel too bad Allan, the closest I have ever come to playing Traveller is briefly running a campaign in the last year.

Some day I'll be a Player and not a Referee :-)

I wished him well over on the CotI forum.

I'm re-gathering my old collection of Traveller stuff (1e) to hopefully one day run a short campaign. We played the hell out of that thing in the 80's! If I do it online, you two are welcome to play!

Thanks.

Marc making the old version (3 black books and associated stuff) available via a big dvd archive was a great resource.
