Paladin in Hell is cutoff - can anyone give me a scan?

You can talk about "almost" anything here.

Paladin in Hell is cutoff - can anyone give me a scan?

Post by Jeff »

The image for a Paladin in Hell, p. 23 of the PHB, is cut off on my copy.

I'm wondering if anyone can scan the bottom, right, and top edges of their PHB where the image hasn't been cut by the printer.

For reference, here's a picture of my page (click to enlarge):

Maybe this is how it looks in ALL the PHBs?

Looking for a 600dpi or better scan, but, I'll take anything!

It always goes to (and beyond) the edge of the page, though exactly what is cut off varies - by printing, and maybe even by individual book. I've owned copies where the "A Paladin in Hell" caption was clearly visible, and some where it was cut off almost entirely. IIRC when the original piece was sold at auction a decade or so ago someone posted a picture of the full uncropped pic which has sections that weren't included in any printing of the PH, but a couple of Google searches on likely-seeming keywords didn't turn anything up :|

It varies, I think, almost book-to-book. Not sure why Random House was so inconsistent with that particular print. Emirkol the Chaotic doesn't suffer the same problem...maybe, with the PHB being the "middle book" they didn't quite have the process down?

(But then, I can't imagine Random House not having good enough QC to do that, and then not getting back on top of it after a first print run.)

This isn't really helpful, but you can see a more complete extent of the illustration here; the original artwork extends beyond what you can see in the PH (and note that the credit got moved for the PH version, and the title added):

Thanks everyone. Looks like it was pretty endemic to all the printings.

I wish there were a decent scan out there somewhere.
