Perhaps, and that is the most obvious response, but really I wouldn't use Kickstarter if I didn't have to. I'm comfortable enough with my business acumen to not need that cushion at some point. If I ever get there is still a big "if," but if I got to where I could walk on my own I'd hope to have enough respect to stop using the crutch.ghendar wrote:You answered your own question. For established small and medium-sized companies, KS is really more of an advertising platform than a funding platform, where KS gets a cut in exchange for buzz and a sense of community being added to what is otherwise an individual purchase, as well as very precise demand information.

That makes sense. I guess my sense of fair play is that they are taking away from the ability of the smallest campaigns to fund, and using the platform in a way it was not designed to accommodate. And since my KS funded, I don't personally feel like I was harmed in any way by playing on the same field as the big boys, but I can see it being an issue.EOTB wrote:For established small and medium-sized companies, KS is really more of an advertising platform than a funding platform, where KS gets a cut in exchange for buzz and a sense of community being added to what is otherwise an individual purchase, as well as very precise demand information.
Anyway, all very interesting, but I think we've veered far enough off-topic. Thanks for indulging this tangent.

I think how not to run a KS isn't so much a tangent as one of the main issues lol.

DM: Roll to hit.
Player: I rolled a "1".
DM: Instead of pushing the orc off the bridge, you reach out and gently caress its cheek.
An entire game based on that shitty die roll. Impressive!

Looks like it will be lucky to break 70k.
Going to be agonizing for them if they don't cancel it in the next week or so.

This comment from "Collaborator" Mike Myler is pretty amusing to me: "Frank's really busy doing other stuff." Stuff that's more important than raising a quarter million dollars, I guess.

Yeah, that comment made me scratch my head too. What the hell? This is your big KS, 40 years in the making, biggest names in the biz, and clearly you are not worried about writing at the moment (you will whip out those notes at the end of the KS and just type 'em out real quick like), but you can't be bothered to answer questions or provide updates? I will stick to the "amateurs" for KS if this is a pro.Blackadder23 wrote:This comment from "Collaborator" Mike Myler is pretty amusing to me: "Frank's really busy doing other stuff." Another parallel with Gareth M. Skarka and Far West. What's even more ridiculous is that he isn't posting on Facebook or anywhere, really. Last post I saw was on the 9th on pizzaria. So whatever stuff he is doing, is apparently more important than promoting the KS. I am pretty sure he's got some don't feed the trolls mentality where he actually thinks it's better not to post anywhere he might be challenged, even if that's his own Kickstarter lol.
