Hugh Hefner is dead
The king is dead, long live the king! Wonder how the next life is going to treat him.

Thanks, Hef, for a somewhat less frustrating adolescence.

You know, he's probably the one guy that you can't say moved on to a better place! The man lived a hell of a life!
Rest in peace, Hef!

Hey, Gary hung around the Playboy Mansion in LA, and I believe the resort where GaryCon is held now used to be a Playboy Resort back in the day did it not?Chainsaw wrote:You know, he's probably the one guy that you can't say moved on to a better place! The man lived a hell of a life!![]()

I don't think peace is what he is looking for...Chainsaw wrote:You know, he's probably the one guy that you can't say moved on to a better place! The man lived a hell of a life!![]()

Maybe it was a typo and Chainsaw meant "rest in piece"JasonZavoda wrote:I don't think peace is what he is looking for...Chainsaw wrote:You know, he's probably the one guy that you can't say moved on to a better place! The man lived a hell of a life!![]()

Re: Hugh Hefner is dead
Not to begrudge anyone a long life, but it feels to me like Hef's story would've had a happier ending if he'd passed 15 or so years ago, presumably from a heart-attack while in the act, while the Playboy empire was still running strong, rather than having to witness the indignity of its collapse (including having the Playboy Mansion sold out from under him and becoming a tenant in his own home). The Playboy brand of glossy softcore doesn't seem to be worth much anymore and I assume without Hef around it won't last much longer. They recently tried going "upmarket" to compete with Maxim, Esquire, etc. which doesn't seem to have worked. I suspect they'll next go the other direction and sooner than later the Playboy properties will end up being sold off to some hardcore company.

While Playboy did much to build muscle in my left arm as a teen, it was also a great resource of excellent short fiction. Yes, it was a great mag for the articles, too!

They took nudes out of the magazine to try and appeal to the SJ crowd (and had some of that type working there/running things) and it tanked the brand so fast that experiment lasted a shorter length of time than when they tried putting the centerfold in the back of the magazine.T. I don't know what could have saved playboy. He should have shut it down gracefully and retired with a bevy of nymphs and a lot of viagra.thedungeondelver wrote:They took nudes out of the magazine to try and appeal to the SJ crowd (and had some of that type working there/running things) and it tanked the brand so fast that experiment lasted a shorter length of time than when they tried putting the centerfold in the back of the magazine.T. At least there was one man in the world who didn't go to hell for excessive masturbation.

Define "excessive." Asking for a friend.Melan wrote:At least there was one man in the world who didn't go to hell for excessive masturbation.
