Steeds

If you were going to use humanoids as a stand in for mongol like invaders what steeds would you imagine them riding upon? We already know goblins ride wargs but what would you see for orcs, hobgoblins, etc.
I want to hear what you did in the dungeon, not the voting booth. Politics and rules minutia both bore me in my opinion.

Orcs also imo ride worgs.. Hobgoblins i see riding war horses. Bugbears imo would need something larger cause of their size. Same with Gnolls.

I often use giant boars as steeds for orc/goblin types. (The tusks are good for extra damage!) I used wooly rhinos once as well. I think those were ridden by bugbears in the lower levels of my Talos dungeon. (They could shoot a projectile out of their horns like Tundro from the Herculoids.)

For a desert or jungle setting, giant lizards or giant beetles might be cool steeds. I've though about those, but they have yet to make an appearance.

Thanks guys! Boars for orcs works for me. Horses are going to be strictly a human/Demi-human beast. I was also toying with the idea of some large feline like beast for hobgoblins. Gnolls and bugbears I wasn't sure if I would have them be mounted or not.

Elephants with howdahs
Rhinos
Bears
Carnivorous apes, with saddles that also handle an upright (piggy-back) rider position
Stags (though I picture them as an elf mount)

Not already mentioned:

Axe beaks have style, plus a base move of 18".

I like to put giant-type creatures on baluchitherium.

Giant rams or goats would do well for mountain-dwelling raiders.

If you want something crazy and terrifying you could have goblins mounted on giant skunks. I wouldn't mount the whole force on skunks, mind.

Higher ranking humanoids and shamans could be mounted on flying creatures. Hieracosphinxes , dragonnels, and wyverns are inherently evil and capable of supporting riders. Griffons and hippogriffs also options.

Velociraptors. That just instantly came into my head the moment I read the question.

Maybe they have bosses that ride allosauruses.

For gnolls, giant hyenas are an obvious choice (although the associations with those awful scenes from Peter Jackson's The Twin Towers makes it less palatable than otherwise). I think a hobgoblin war chief riding a tiger (weretiger?) would be pretty cool.

Tropical and desert: African buffalo, wildebeest, camel, pygmy mammoth (it's the perfect size)

Tundra: Musk oxen, polar bear, mammoth, woolly rhinoceros, hyaenodon gigas

Forests and swamp: short-nosed cave bear, moose, giant boar, bison, axe beak/clubneck

Gnolls should ride giant feral bunnies. Bugbears should ride giant ants. Hobgoblins should all be infantry.

I had an orc tribe mounted on wooly mammoths and giant ravens.

I’d also do banthas from Star Wars and/or thestrals from Harry Potter.
