WTF else are you watching? (non-TV)

Post by francisca »

I'm watching a POS* workstation not booting, and about to throw the fucking thing through the window.

Earlier today, I watched a kid almost get run over by a bus, because, you know, if you go ahead and cross in a non-crosswalk, when the "do not walk" sign is displayed, if you don't look up at the bus, it will stop. One lucky SOB.

*: I surely do not mean Point-Of-Sale......

Lately I gravitate to watching live recordings of bands on YouTube, when I have 10-15 minutes to kill and don't want to read. Watched some Bauhaus and Love & Rockets the other day. No matter what I start with, I usually end up on a NIN concert.

I watch that one (and the one where they have Gary on stage for Metal) so often, my _kids_ know the words now! Not that I sing along. No, not at all.

I watched Trump address the UN. I don't care if other leaders want to be addressed as "His Excellency", but I object to the US president (no matter who) addressed that way. It just smacks of royalty to me.

I've been checking out the national hurricane center website a lot lately, and knocking on wood quite a bit.

I've also been watching a lot of Dan Jones' youtube videos on hypnosis.

Currently watching:

Boring: The data reviewer on my screen checking for errors in our geodatabase.

Interesting: Trailers on YouTube for old 80s horror flicks, both the more well known ones and then some of the obscure stuff I never watched growing up.

Today at coffee shop, waiting to place order, I did that thing where you let your eyes un-focus. In that state I noticed that when the barrista walked she kept he shoulders perfectly level. It looked like she could have been on rollers. That is what I watched today before staring at an IDE screen and tangling my brain in knots for a while hand-rolling doubly linked lists in C.

I have an 8AM private student on the other side of town 3 days a week. He's started staring at his mobile phone and chatting during class. Normally I wouldn't get irritated but he's the only student. I'm wondering if a physical assault would get his attention.

DVDs of the old 70s kiddie show Space Academy.
Land of the Lost on Yootoob.

Like the movie Somwhere in Time, I'm hoping that, if I wish it were the 70s again, I would be instantly transported back to that better time.

Today sucks balls.

I had a student like that I was tutoring. The local community college gave free tuition to high school grads if they could manage not to flunk out of any of their classes and paid tutors to help them. They were the laziest pieces of crap imaginable. They expected me to teach them everything they didn't bother learning in class. Luckily the head of the math department would kick them off the tutoring list if they didn't have their work completed (homework and pre-tests) before they met with me. There were always more students then tutors so I never lost money getting rid of the do-nothings.
