Re: Hey Falc (and others in the Chicago area)
Cool. They did a “Music of John Williams” concert in Millennium Park a few weeks ago. Concerts in the park are awesome, if you can ever catch one. They’re free, and, you can chill on the lawn with food and drink. What could be better? I always go to the opera one because my wife sings in it, and it’s a guaranteed entertaining show. It’s on Friday, September 8 this year.
The Howard Shore score has grown on me, over the years, because we always have it playing during our War of the Ring games. It’s a little flat, for my taste—it stays in the same emotional space with little variance. It could have been a little bolder, like the Leonard Rosenman score, and it could have taken more influence from both English folk song and Gregorian Chant, and a little less Wagner, Enya, and Hollywood temp track.
All that said, the idea of watching a film with live orchestra and singers sounds like the coolest thing ever. I’d really like to do it with Star Wars (1977, especially if they can get away with using the Team Negative 1 restoration of the original film) — or, I would add, Sleeping Beauty (1959), except then why not just see the actual ballet? The LotR films are not my favorite, though FotR was okay, especially the Extended Edition. So I would consider going to that, if not for the fact that we’re listing our house in four days…

I'm probably 4 to 8 years behind you, but probably headed south instead of east.

That NW corner of Indiana is where I've been looking as this long-term project I'm working on that may move me to Chicago-land continues its progress. Still not sure we'll relo immediately.
Prayers for a smooth and successful move.

Do you guys ever sneak back across the border into Wisconsin to enjoy some clean air every now and again, Falc?
