I've only read up to book 3 but I just don't see Martin as anything but a decent writer at best. The show is very entertaining but pretty full of stupid but I still enjoy it far more than the novels. What about the books is stunning in the waay of worldbuilding? I just don't see it.

Having Jon or Dany on the Iron Throne is just too...happily every after kind of ending.
Another possibility is the civil war and the war against the dead leaving Westeros so ruined and depleted that Westeros is left in a state of anarchy with petty warlords and barons ruling over city-states.

That is a good probability for the novel ending but I can't see it for the tv show. Something much more fan friendly with a good dose of pathos no doubt.

I found the latest episode (the penultimate one of the season) to be the stupidest one, yet. Best part was the conversation between The Hound and Tormund. The rest of it was full of moments and events that took me right out of my suspension of disbelief, again and again. It's definitely got more of a "bad Hollywood" thing going on, lately.
Also, Gendry's hammer is super ridiculous.

What? You don't like supersonic ravens?

And supersonic dragons!
Well, at least the draco-zombie wish came true. Good call there.
Will its breath weapon be a freezing gale?

How many deus ex machinas can you have in a single battle? Couldn't Ghost or Nymeria (or both!) have swooped in and saved the day, too?
As predicted, I'm finding the Arya and Sansa being pissy at each other story line completely intolerable.
As the Three Eyed Raven, Bran seems to be doing even less than the other Three Eyed Raven. Nothing he might want to tell his sisters?

Of course, Cersei is going to do something completely devious at the big powwow they're having. Probably wildfire related.

Yeah, the episode was pretty revolting in its stupidity. The premise that they will get Cersi to co-operate just makes no sense and it just seems like an excuse for a Gendry sized plot-hammer to beat the life out of the show. The 2,000 mile round trip for Raven and Dragon just is more of what has been happening all season.

Supersonic ravens. Supersonic dragons. Supersonic Gendry. The magnificent seven going out beyond the wall with no cold weather gear or equipment, no hats or helms, no shields, no spears, no bows, et cetera. A distinctive, big ass mountain that is close enough to walk to in no time, but apparently can't be seen from the wall. Arctic conditions that apparently aren't cold enough to threaten anyone's life (even when they're stuck all night on a rock in the middle of a frozen lake, riding around in the freezing air bareheaded in a dress, or submersed in freezing cold water). Honestly, I had no investment in any "danger" in this episode (except maybe that bear, which had me going "See? You should've brought some dragonglass-tipped spears!), I was just waiting for the inevitable deus ex machina of the moment, or for John Snow to resurface with a big "pah!" of breath. Also, haven't we already done "John Snow is an idiot and gets surrounded by an army and is saved at the last minute by the arrival of allies?" Even the "John Snow goes under" thing was repeated. Couldn't they have done something a bit different with this? And let's not forget that stupid hammer.
A big, eye-rolling disappointment, IMO. I've enjoyed the show and have refrained from being overly critical, but this one broke me.

Sad they trotted out Benjen Stark just to write him off. Par for the course, unfortunately.

Thank God the Night King had several hundred yards of super-fucking-maximum-strength ginormous chains handy, eh? Always be prepared!

Littlefinger had better get killed in the next episode.
The Night King had a pretty easy time killing that dragon, and now he has an undead dragon. I'm starting to wonder how in season 8 men with two dragons are going to defeat an undead army with an undead dragon.

He sent a raven and had them swiftly brought on site.
