Yeah, I was gonna say he had that particular need filled.

Re: And the 13th Doctor Is...
A few weeks back I heard a lot of outrage over two negative comments (that I saw out of hundreds of positive comments) on facebork/twatter/whatever about "Black Panther" having 'too many' black actors. I thought I was the only white nerd around who was actually excited for this movie. Then I talked to (the predominantly white) nerds at the game store, and was really surprised to find out they are just as excited as I am.Falconer wrote:It does remind me a bit of all the extravagant outrage and headlines and emotional interviews in response to probably two anonymous twitter trolls raising outrageous complaints over the black stormtrooper in TFA.
I have been convinced that there is a lot of noise out there to bump up the SJW POV, the mock outrage we're hearing is either just that: mocked up to promote a political agenda, or real outrage over something that never happened, or happened maybe once or twice. Hardly worth the effort.
On topic: I'm in the wait & see camp. I fell away from DW during Matt Smith's first run, and I really haven't missed it. I bought a few of the Part 1 or Part 2 of Series such-n-such, but haven't watched an entire season since. Maybe I can catch up with netflix when I finally get internet installed next month, but I wonder if watching them is worth the effort (even Karen Gillan, still!) due to the lesser form of writing episodic TV in the new millenium.

After they made the Master a woman everyone knew the Doctor would be a woman sooner or later. I haven't heaard much flak about the concept. I just wish they could Moffat out as he really seems to be driving the show into the ground.JCBoney wrote:Jodie Whittaker.

Personally, I think it's past time to have a female Doctor, and I can't understand all the flak I'm seeing on FB and other places. Give her a chance, for chrissakes.Jodie Whittaker has been announced as Doctor Who's 13th Time Lord - the first woman to be given the role.
The new Doctor's identity was revealed in a trailer broadcast at the end of the Wimbledon men's singles final.
The Broadchurch star succeeds Peter Capaldi, who took over the role in 2013 and leaves in the forthcoming Christmas special.
Whittaker, 35, said it was "overwhelming, as a feminist" to become the next Doctor.
She will make her debut on the sci-fi show when the Doctor regenerates in the Christmas Day special.

Re: And the 13th Doctor Is...
Hartnell's Doctor wasn't meant to be the first incarnation. I don't remember when they tossed in the 12 incarnation thing, but earlier episodes flashed back to several earlier incarnations. Might have been the last episode of the Troughton series.grodog wrote:I've not followed Dr. Who much in the past decade, but my vague recollection is that there were only supposed be 12 incarnations, right? So, does the 13th doctor become a "new" doctor, or is there some time-travel paradox thingy at work to extend the "current" doctor into another reincarnation?

Tom Baker is the Doctor for me, while I like Capaldi as an actor (Local Hero) I thought he was the worst doctor since Colin BakerJCBoney wrote:Baker owned the role, to be sure. You should give Peter Capaldi a chance, particulary his last season which will wrap up with the Christmas Special this year. Re: And the 13th Doctor Is...
A interesting statement. Actually, there was no concept of regeneration or renewal during Hartnell's time, so there was no concept of "first" or "second." It only came at the end of his tenure because they needed a new actor due to Hartnell's bad health.JasonZavoda wrote:Hartnell's Doctor wasn't meant to be the first incarnation.
It wasn't even until the end of the Third Doctor's tenure that it was called "regeneration." It had been previously referred to as a "renewal" and a "change of appearance."
Hartnell's Doctor is the established First incarnation of the character as set in The Three Doctors.
The Deadly Assassin, when it was revealed that the Master had burned through all of his.I don't remember when they tossed in the 12 incarnation thing,
You're probably referring to the incarnations shown in The Brain of Morbius. Those were established as previous incarnations of Morbius himself. The confusion sat in due to bad directing as those incarnations were shown while the camera was focused on the Fourth Doctor.but earlier episodes flashed back to several earlier incarnations. Might have been the last episode of the Troughton series.

I'm with Jason; Tom Baker was "my" doctor.
When I watched the show, I had no idea they did that changing doctors thing. It was very weird (in my defense, I was like 11 or 12 and had never seen the show before I started watching it).
