So much cringe in how proud they were about the changes to the game that we loathe.
The DUNGEON MASTERS GUIDE City of Brass cover is good and bad at the same time. While its very representational of a high level adventure, it sends a clear message to the dumb: Satan is going to cornhole Miss USA with a big red member and theres nothing science or the military can do about it. - Gene Weigel

I seldom bother; they don't listen, they just sit there, strong and dumb, on their mountain.

'85 was a bad year for AD&D.

I am just constantly baffled because something like changing the AC direction is such trivia that does not even remotely rank on the list of things i think make the game awesome & fun. That was the top of their wish list? Nerds!

And yeah, thank you Zeb/OA for INVENTING skills. Amazing!

Wasn't there just some thread about how DM's should read through character sheets and tailor adventures to the skills the players listed? A skill list is handy for giving player's ideas on what they could try out but I've always found them to be an attempt to dumb the game down and make it something people without imagination can grasp. In the end they turn it into a boardgame or a videogames, no imagination required. I've always given players an incentive to do things and I accept any rational explanation for abilities. "My family lived on a lake and I learned to swim and use small boats," "I apprenticed in a cheese shop before I became a thief and I can tell expensive cheese from the cheap stuff", etc... No freaking skill list needed.

I swear to God, I read EGG mentioning he wanted a different AC system in 1e, but decided against it because everyone was used to the descending AC. I cannot recall where I read it. Anyone?

When "Red Box" means the '83 Basic Set to me and the 2010 4th Edition Essentials Line to someone else, I can only take one stance:

In the DMG. Also, it was mentioned in old interview archived here, as I recall.

Yep, that's a lot of back-patting. :? Let 'em think what they want to shore up their self-esteem. It's not like they're saying "AD&D is the spawn of the Devil and will corrupt young minds!!! Burn the books!!! Look away, Ye Children of Wi$bro!!! Repent!!!"
