Ultrasabers, coolest toy ever?

Post by Steve »

WARNING: If you do not have several hundred dollars to burn on a completely frivolous but totally awesome toy, read no further!

Last chance to turn back. You are approaching the point of no return...

The dream of owning a working lightsaber has become a reality. We now have the technology!

Check out ultrasabers, the makers and sellers of lightsabers that you can actually spar with. I was highly skeptical of all the positive reviews I was seeing. If they are so great, why hadn't I heard of them before? Even though my expectations were really high, they blew us away when they arrived! Me, the wife, the kids all love these things. We've already had several epic duels within the family!

You can see tons of reviews on youtube and pics on ultrasaber's forums (too lazy to post my own). We purchased several sabers for the family, and they are A.W.E.S.O.M.E.! I will definitely be bringing an evil red ultrasaber to this year's NTRPGCon Laser-Swords & Six-Siders games to keep my players in line (every Galactic Overlord/GM should have one!).

You'll put your eye out, kid!
The DUNGEON MASTERS GUIDE City of Brass cover is good and bad at the same time. While its very representational of a high level adventure, it sends a clear message to the dumb: Satan is going to cornhole Miss USA with a big red member and theres nothing science or the military can do about it. - Gene Weigel

One of my co-workers at Ruckus hand-build a light saber, will have to see what he thinks about these.

Those DO look awesome. My 5yo, Finn, and I watched one of the vids on the site.

For the time being, however, we're sticking with these:

They're easier on the wallet. (And they even have sound, too!)

Nah, but I might go blind from sheer awesomeness! These things are pretty bright. No visits to the ER (yet); my kids are much better behaved than I was. If my brother and I had these back in the day... yeah, cracked skulls for sure.

I love the Walmart space swords; that is how this all got started. I couldn't believe how much awesomeness they crammed into a $4 toy (I believe it even has some level of motion detection). I bought a bunch of these to hand out to the players in my LS&SS games, and my kids had to have one, so I got them space-swords, too. Naturally, my son only wanted to hit stuff with it. "If you hit it on anything, it is likely to break and then you won't be getting another..."

So that got me wondering about the $150 official Star Wars "black series" sabers. I read they were fragile, too, and that is when I came across Ultrasabers. The rest is history. We've been having a blast the last couple of weeks with these. We started out with a few low end sabers, then I ordered my dream saber and it totally blew us away. Even my wife had to order a nicer one after seeing what mine can do, and she's a bigger cheapskate than me! The ones with the extra features are expensive, but some things are so worth the money.

Those look cool, though I am fairly satisfied with the "official" toys:

I would not be inclined to pick up the super expensive deluxe versions, mind, though I discovered that Disney shops carry another line of light sabres under the tag "duelling". Looking at Amazon reviews, though, they are not very durable.

UPDATE

After several orders and various issues, and I say this as a former fan, the people who run Ultrasabers have a serious lack of integrity, and that is putting it very mildly.

I strongly advise steering clear of Ultrasabers.

That is a pity.
