I might buy that if the most recent James Bond reboot (Daniel Craig) sucked. But it didn't...it's one of the best (though not better than Connery), and it's been modernized and Craig's Bond is noticeably different than Connery or the others. That tells me a franchise can modernize and appeal to current audiences without selling its soul for pennies on the dollar.

I understand the economic and marketing reasons behind why it happens, but it just seems like a cheap shot to take something cherished, turn it into something else, then try to sell it to me as the original but BETTER. That's a lie, and I don't like being lied to. If they're going to make something different, call it something different. If it's good, modern audiences will buy it (and so might some of us older folks). If it isn't, don't tell me it's something I remember as good just to get my quick buck.

Well, I thought the new Bond kind of sucked, but that is besides the point. My response was to how Jason feels about Western Civilisation, and not a particular franchise.

The best James Bond movies to come out in the 2000s are the Jason Bourne movies.

Okay, shaky-cam blows, but blame that on Spielberg and saving private ryan.

OK. I thought it was a general reply to the most recent posts (at that time), because I can see the point. I know I'm a cranky old(er) man who doesn't like new stuff and has to adjust to it very slowly to make sure it's actually good and not just hype to get my dollar (by which time it's often old stuff). I just wish more of the new stuff was worth consuming. I love the old stuff, but you can only consume it so much before it gets stale.

Those were good, at least the first three (haven't seen the others), and certainly better than the original mini-series with Richard Chamberlain.

In case you didn't see the episode: they now have a biologically based warp system that takes you anywhere in just a few seconds. Anywhere.

Fuck that noise. It negates the whole idea of exploration and the ship captain's autonomy. Don't know what to do in a situation? No problem! Just teleport back to HQ for new orders!

There'd be no such thing as space battles either. Each side would need an infinite amount of ships. A teleporting character *over infinite space * is trouble enough. An entire fleet of ships doing that is practically inconceivable.

And no. I only watched part of the first episode to learn I wasn't the target audience. They lost me at yet another overhaul of what a Klingon is, and I was doubly done when the Klingons decloaked while Kirk was presumably still in the Academy.

I know what you mean. Don't get the wrong idea... this form of travel is highly experimental and classified, so it's probably going to wash out or something.

Another reason they shouldn't have done a prequel series. They should have done some type of 28th century version instead.
