Speaking of...just watched The House at the End of Time. Pretty good twist on a haunted house story.

Bought season 3 on Amazon.
Been watching with Finn McCool. (He loves it!)
The headhunter episodes are the absolute best!

Season 1 of Doc Martin, and it's funny as hell.

Watched Deadpool yesterday afternoon and enjoyed it. Not like, BEST MOVIE EVARRRRR good or anything, but fun, entertaining and a welcome contrast to the increasingly serious, pretentious superhero movies that desperately want to be about Issues. Come on, lighten up, Francis! Sometimes you just want to crack open a beer and watch a dude kick some ass while making a few jokes. This pretty much delivers. :D

Cruising through the complete Six Million Dollar Man (currently started S4). Loved the show as a wee sprog, but, predictably, it hasn't aged that well over the millennia: poor SFX, very uneven writing, virtually nil character development of the protagonist.

The 6MDM and other shows in the 60s and 70s had the irritating habit of involving other countries in the storylines, but not actually mentioning them. They would make up something, and the audience would have to puzzle out what they intended. E.g. "The Golden Pharaoh" was about the title artefact being stolen from a country called Levanta (?!), and not, obviously, Egypt. I'm surprised they didn't go with Fakelandistan, or Mocklandia. :) In terms of sheer uninventiveness, it's on par with Unobtanium.

New season of Game of Thrones. I have the strong feeling that nothing is going to happen this season as we wait for Martin to finish writing the book ...

Watching GoT season 4. Not a bad show, but unfortunately feels like a cross between LotR and Hostel. I think I'm just a bit jaded because it comes off as old-geek sex and gore porn fantasies.

The dragons look nice, though.

I realized today how much this show reminds me of Northern Exposure.

That was last season. This season, they're just saying "fuck it" and doing whatever they want.

Edit to add - and, after 2 episodes, this season is being the better for it.

Yeah - less high-concept intrigue, and more audience-oriented action, which, in this case, is a very, very good thing.

By the way, and this is just a question for the experts - could it be that Mr Martin watched a couple of anime series very, very closely? - I am thinking, the classic "Record of the Lodoss War", and a rather obscure series called "Legend of the Galactic Heroes"?

Like, they're all from more or less the same time - 1990 to 1996, and 1997 - but a couple of the interpersonal dynamics look extremely similar. I am particularly interested in seeing how GoT's plot, once it's finished, will look compared to "Legend of the Galactic Heroes". :)

Not sure about anime, but in the 80s Martin was playing Chaosium's Superworld rpg A LOT. So much in fact that he didn't really write fiction during that time and spent most of his time working on the campaign.

Is that why he can't finish the series? He's too busy playing RPGs? I respect that.

On the other hand SoIaF is as much frpg setting as it is a series of novels.

The VVitch with two capital Vs (not a W). Very, Very cool horror flick set in 17th century New England. Creepy, subtle and authentic feeling with a good script and good acting. Really makes me want to feature a coven as the main antagonists in an adventure. Highly recommended!

I'm pretty excited to hear the director/writer has plans to make a Nosferatu film because I think he'd do a terrific job.

Captain America: Civil War was a darn good movie. Though technically it's part of the Captain America stream, it's very much more an Avengers movie. The screen time is well dispersed amongst much of the team.
