The reviews in WD were great - unapologetic. You can pretty much bet if Dragon Magazine was calling something a 'deep, adult fantasy trilogy', WD was calling it 'a load of bollocks'.

Anyways...Star Trek fans used to get really irritated by the term 'Trekkies', preferring the more serious-sounding 'Trekkers'.

That was likely the best Walking Dead episode of the entire series. After the opening segment, I feared the episode would lag. Well, I was way wrong.

I had to stay up super late to watch it, and boy am I glad I did!

Definitely pleasantly surprised.

Actually quite enjoying Telenovela. It's pretty funny.

Also going back through all of The Cosby Show and another run of Firefly which makes me want to buy the RPG.

Ridley Scott's 2010 Robin Hood. Worth it, or skip it? If it's well-filmed and has nice action scenes, and Scott's usually top notch on both those things, then I don't need the movie to be anything more than mediocre in storytelling.

Did you ever order a great looking salad off a menu, and then it arrives at your table with all the ingredients separated atop the bed of leaves?



We went to see The Witch last night, and I felt as if I ordered that salad. The synopsis looked good, the reviews were decent, it was eerily filmed, well-acted, good story and had a fitting ending. But, and I can't put my finger on why, but it just didn't mix well. I wanted a salad, and I instead got ingredients for a salad.

2.5 for a movie that should have been at least a 4 of 5. I may have liked it better on Netflix, but maybe not. It certainly wasn't a terrible movie, but it was just disappointingly mediocre, because it had a lot of potential.

So, The Tree of Life retains the championship belt for most disappointing flop of the past few years.

Just finished the 2nd season of an amusing New Zealand detective show called The Brokenwood Mysteries. If you can get over the number of murders that occur in a relatively small town in New Zealand it is a decent offshoot of the modern detective formula.

Finished the first season of a starz show called Outlander about mystic timetravel back to early 18th century Scotland. Worth it just for the setting and costume. I have no idea of the accuracy but the apothecary in the castle is a fantastic visual resource. The show itself is a historical romance with sex, nudity and some bloodshed, fairly meh. It got me started rewatching Cadfael which is an exceptional show and another great bit of atmospheric source material for a fantasy medieval setting.

Creed: competent if boring sports drama that you have seen a dozen or more times already. Nothing particularly original, noteworthy or memorable in my opinion. Watch Bloodsport again instead. That's fun at least! Better yet, go balls out and watch Cyborg or Gymkata.

Rambo (2008): a great bad movie, if you know what I mean. I think Rambo kills like a billion dudes in this one.

Avenging Force is also awesome, but only available on YouTube at the moment. The tenuous "sports connection" here is that protagonist participates in a "game" at the end where he's hunted in a swamp by different bad guys.

Skip it. Not totally worthless, but you can spend your time better. Probably the best scenes are at the beginning when Robin is in France with the king.

Thanks. I will skip it then. Ridley Scott's movies are becoming something less than they used to be. It's a shame, but I'm not looking forward to a possible Blade Runner sequel. (
