The Alchemist is one of the better songs on the album, and definitely evocative of their early D&D playing roots.
Eric Bloom's voice is showing age, unfortunately, but Buck Dharma's voice is still instantly recognizable. The new guys in the band are good. I believe they are going to be a great asset to Blue Oyster Cult.
As a fan of 40 years of B.Ö.C., I approve of this message.
This document links the evolution of the band, mulls over band names and alcohol, Cully Stout Beer, Soft White Underbelly & The Stalk-Forrest Group, meanings behind its enigmatic lyrics of songs like Transmaniacon MC, Astronomy, The Sub-Human, ME-262, Workshop of the Telescopes, the Red & Black, etc..
This documentary deconstructs "Imaginos", an album clearer in dreamy concept than execution, seemed better than it was received, and attempts to intertwine the gonzo, HP Lovecraft inspired Soft Doctrines of Immaginos with Altamont, insane Mexican waiters in a musical group, World War II, the Necronomicon, and Alchemy, all designed by BOC mastermind and manager Sandy Pearlman.

Agreed. The whole album rocks, inspired by Blood Meridian. I first heard some of it on The Walking Dead of all things (which it predates).

@bobjester: thanks for the Imaginos doc: it was very informative, but the narrator talks so bloody fast! It was sometimes hard to follow him. I knew that Perlman was the heart of the band, but I had no idea to what extent.

I picked up my first High on Fire album (on LP as well), at a record store this afternoon. Hope to give it a spin tomorrow!

Which one, grodog?
HoF is fantastic and the closest thing we have to a new Motörhead. “Snakes for the Divine” is my favorite, but they’re such a consistent band, you can’t really go wrong with any of their albums.
