I'm unusually struck by the death of Eddie Van Halen. That guy just absolutely ruled the early 80s for me. VH was my coming-of-age music, the smoking that first real strong joint in the back of my buddy's car at 15 packed in tight with what seemed like a dozen chicks in tight jeans and halter tops. Doing wild doughnuts in the K-Mart parking lot amped up on sugar, Diamond Dave and Eddie - He ruled the music stores and was perhaps the last great guitarist to dominate the sheet music and guitar magazine racks. He always sported that same dumb grin as Ronnie does with the Stones, while a little lighter on his feet. The man had a fantastic moment in the sun and I'm remembering him fondly.

A lot of early Van Halen. RIP Eddie.
Also, Blue Oyster Cult dropped their newest: The Symbol Remains album. Just over an hour long, better than their last album, "Curse of the Hidden Mirror" nearly 20 years ago now.
The Alchemist is one of the better songs on the album, and definitely evocative of their early D&D playing roots.
Eric Bloom's voice is showing age, unfortunately, but Buck Dharma's voice is still instantly recognizable. The new guys in the band are good. I believe they are going to be a great asset to Blue Oyster Cult.

I kept going on my Van Halen deep dive. Listened to all 12 studio albums and the half dozen or so non-album tracks a few times. Here's my definitive playlist for the whole history of the band...
It's the length of a 2CD set, with the first CD running from the debut through Diver Down and the second CD running from 1984 through the end of their career.

As a fan of 40 years of B.Ö.C., I approve of this message.
