D&D Next Playtest

Post by francisca »

Some of you may have noticed I haven't been as active here and other social media outlets of late.

That's because I've been playtesting D&D Next (some refer to it as 5e) in all of my spare time.

It's amazing. I'm completely consumed by it and honestly, I think it will be the best iteration of D&D to date. I'm simply taken with the way it takes the best of all editions as stirs them into one amazing package.

I'll be selling all of my classic D&D material shortly, as I simply won't ever be returning to the baroque, confusing mess that Gygax and his antecedents left for us. My retroclones will be going as well, so I've got some hardcopies of OSRIC, LL, and AS&SoH which I'll be putting up for sale. I'll post the list here first, to give my fellow alehouse patrons a chance at some solid books for a reasonable price. I'll be happy to see this material go to a good home, where they will be appreciated.

Seriously guys. Sign up for the playtest. It will change your gaming life.

If it has dual-weapon uber-specialization for my half Kender, half Dragonborn ninja spy from space, I'm in!

I can barely believe what I am reading! What is going on? The world turned upside down? How can you guys really be considering choosing D&D Next? Have you forgotten so soon what happened with D&D 4E? I could maybe understand if you were jumping ship for Path Finder (after all, Paizo put out some great stuff, certainly I never pass up a glossy paged "adventure path"), and I figured this recent backslide into "old school" adventure games was just a passing phase, but how can you really be so ignorant as to choose D&D 5E over D&D 3E? It was the culmination of twenty-five years of design and development delivered up to us by the saviours of TSR, and in conjunction with the open game license the promise was that it would only get better! Bunch of edition traitors! I can never forgive this transgression! Reconsider, or I will see you all banned from the internet forever!

No matter how good 5E is, my group's sticking with 4E, so take your propaganda elsewhere.

Yeah, but NEXT has a whole module of rules for LARPing in it. If you're not using them, you're only playing at the game.

The DUNGEON MASTERS GUIDE City of Brass cover is good and bad at the same time. Our group dabbled with 4e, and we spent some time with the Next play test. But, you know me, I can't stay away from oop & os for long, and so, we've settled into an every other week routine between 3.5 and ACKS. Can't wait for the cutting edge Dwimmermount to arrive. This was my most anticipated osr product of all, and it's going to positively blow the doors off my campaign.

If I treated my marriage like some people treat new versions of games...I would be on my twelfth marriage. Better get on eHarmony and starting looking for my NEXT wife.

My $10 is pledged! That is all I had on me as I pledged $150 to the kickstarter for the Jem Role Playing Game. It is going to be outrageous. Truly, truly, truly outrageous!!
