Right. Yet, people apparently want to save the money for the storm protection system, at least as far as come to know here in Germany. Fine. Let them save their money. ;) I guess the issue is that they want to save other people's money , eh? See, that's the whole problem with democracy. People voti...

I don't think he's conservative in any sense at all.

What I was trying to debunk is the idea that in a pure capitalist system, everyone starts with the same chance and everyone can succeed if only they'll work a little harder... that idea's like the free market. Okay in theory, runs into very serious difficulties when applied to the real world. But w...

Then you have no one to blame but yourself. Thats the price of being a democracy. You have to stay active in defending your constitutional rights, or be prepared to give them back to a government full of powermongers who are more then willing to micro-manage your life. The fact that one has to stay...

Democracy is tyranny sure. But is the only social system available where you can at least influence the outcome (voting, going into politics etc.) On the contrary, one can't influence the outcome at all. The error in counting the results will almost certainly be larger than a single vote. So ultima...

Just look what "Katrina" did. Just one or two more of that cathegory, and there will be no human housing standing any more between the gulf of Mexico and Oklahoma. Now imagine such a storm further northwards, like in New York, or Washington. :( Why should we expect such a storm to happen again any ...

If the democratic majority votes for something, the minority get to obey the rules even if they disagree. That's what democracy means.
I agree. Democracy == tyranny.

So, for example, a system of carbon emissions trading, where a more ecologically efficient company or country can sell its surplus "emissions rights" (up to the cap for that company or country) to another? That's fine for countries that have agreed to it, not fine to impose it upon the rest of the ...

Yes, sorry about that. :oops:
If so, oil can't provide the answer.
I don't expect it to.

I agree with you guys on a couple issues. 1. I think oil reserves (and coal) need to be protected somewhat for the production of plastics for future generations. The market will see to that. 2. I think deforestation MUST be turned around. Not only because of environmental reasons; but also because ...
