Re: Holmes initiative

So I've re-acquired Holmes and I've been re-reading again over the weekend, remembering everything I love about it. It's the first version I ever owned, and my reference version for my first DMing attempt at age 11. That blue monochrome cover takes me straight back to 1981. On re-reading, the thing...

Saving matrix for thieves?

Where the heck is it? It's not in Supplement I unless it's hidden; and it obviously isn't in the core rules. WHEEEEEEEEERE? :P

IIRC, there were actually three or four versions of Lynch's Dune released: the theatrical version (about 2-2.5 hours?) a three hour version a four hour version (IIRC this one was the/a later director's cut) a six hour version I've seen at least three versions, but I'm not sure which of the longer v...

At the risk of potentially derailing the thread, I always thought one of the coolest and most oft-overlooked options for monsters was the shaman/witch-doctor classes for monsters as detailed in the Dungeon Master's Guide.

My players now know that kobolds won't be a pushover all the time!

Hey DD, which (if any) of the rules in your post were actually drawn specifically from the RAW as opposed to being your own extrapolations? Would you mind reposting those rules here (with specific page-references if you've got 'em)? Like JS I'm not opposed to coming up with a set of houserules cove...

My hangup with the 1" movement is that that's ten feet, and there's your entire round. Ten feet in a single minute. That seems really un-dynamic to me...

Well, before I start homebrewing stuff, I'm interested in digging out what there is from the RAW first. Given that parts of DD's post were directly from the RAW, we're going to have to copy/paste that stuff back here to keep the discussion flowing... I think we can keep it all over there since we'r...

It's worth mentioning that the F35 (which is a misapplication of proper nomenclature for military aircraft - the manufacturers have gone nuts and are just slapping "F" or "B" etc. on to aircraft before submitting them for testing and approval these days...F35 should be A-19!) specifications call for...

I split DD's rules into a new thread on the Homebrew board (located here ). If anyone wants to compile what's said about mounted combat in the rules (and there isn't much) and discuss it here that's fine, but to go beyond that to formulate a new set of rules for mounted combat (as DD has done) seem...

Oh I dunno...I don't think it's that ugly: d6 for initiative, charges first, initiative winner 1st missile attacks, winners' 1st melee, losers' 1st missile, losers' 1st melee, winners 2nd missile, winners' 2nd melee, losers' 2nd missile, losers' 2nd melee, and back and forth until missile and melee ...

Yeah, I meant "rules as written" not "rules of warfare" (although considering the topic...) Now these are just bashed together and not formalized at all so y'all will have to forgive me not having all of the books at my disposal ATM. So here we go: Firstly, all other combat considerations not mentio...

Can I suggest some rules for mounted combat that (at least to me) seem grounded in the RoW or would y'all prefer that in the other AD&D fora?

Movement, by itself.

This should be a quick one: How far can a player move and still attack? Half distance? Full distance? Can a character who has a missile weapon with an ROF of 2 eschew the second (or first) shot and move to a more advantageous position instead, and then take the second shot during the next segment mi...

Meh. A 25-ton conventional A/C with an ER Large Laser in it. Virtually no armor and can barely outrun VTOLs.

I could whack this thing with a single pass from a Guardian! ;)

No, seriously, I think it's pretty spiffy.

I think I really like this module: http://www.acaeum.com/DDIndexes/ModPages/ModScans/C1mono_small.jpg A cool map, nasty traps, ancient dark gods, and puzzles! What else does a good dungeon need? Hoards of humanoids to hack down! Throw in a tribe of 300 kobolds and maybe a few Orky overseers and thi...
